00:00:11.440 --> 00:00:15.860
Indents and line spacing are two things that
you can use to control how the text looks

00:00:15.860 --> 00:00:17.140
on a slide.

00:00:17.140 --> 00:00:23.520
And you can adjust them whether you use normal
paragraphs or a bulleted or numbered list.

00:00:23.520 --> 00:00:28.750
If you just want to quickly add a first-line
indent to a paragraph, you can put the insertion

00:00:28.750 --> 00:00:33.230
point at the beginning of the paragraph and
then press the tab key...

00:00:33.230 --> 00:00:37.240
And you can see that this only affected the
first line of the paragraph.

00:00:37.240 --> 00:00:41.840
So if you add a first-line indent to each
paragraph on a slide, it kind of helps them

00:00:41.840 --> 00:00:47.210
stand out from one another, which can make
the text a little bit easier to read.

00:00:47.210 --> 00:00:51.159
There's another way to change indents, and
this affects all the lines.

00:00:51.159 --> 00:00:55.089
First, I'm going to select the paragraphs
I want to change...

00:00:55.089 --> 00:00:59.020
And then I'm going to push the lines to the
right to add more space between the image

00:00:59.020 --> 00:01:00.839
and the text...

00:01:00.839 --> 00:01:04.930
On the Home tab, click Increase List Level.

00:01:04.930 --> 00:01:10.270
And you can see that the left edge of the
text moves to the right...

00:01:10.270 --> 00:01:16.960
That's actually a little too much space, so
I'll just click Decrease List Level...

00:01:16.960 --> 00:01:21.250
The other thing to notice is that when you
change the indent, the font size changes,

00:01:21.250 --> 00:01:22.250
too.

00:01:22.250 --> 00:01:27.980
So if you want the text to be a specific size,
you may have to readjust it.

00:01:27.980 --> 00:01:33.040
You can also use these methods to change the
indentation on a bulleted or numbered list.

00:01:33.040 --> 00:01:38.460
And one reason why you might want to do this
is to create a multilevel list.

00:01:38.460 --> 00:01:44.990
You can select the lines you want to change...
and then click Increase Indent Level.

00:01:44.990 --> 00:01:50.430
And this is a multilevel list because these
items form a kind of sub-list that is organized

00:01:50.430 --> 00:01:52.860
under this line.

00:01:52.860 --> 00:01:58.130
Now to make these lines stand out a little
bit more, we can change the bullet type.

00:01:58.130 --> 00:02:02.100
Having a different bullet here helps show
that these lines are together and they're

00:02:02.100 --> 00:02:04.980
on a different level from the other lines.

00:02:04.980 --> 00:02:08.750
The only thing I don't like about the bullets
is that they're a little too far away from

00:02:08.750 --> 00:02:09.780
the text.

00:02:09.780 --> 00:02:12.200
So I'm going to fine-tune them using the Ruler.

00:02:12.200 --> 00:02:19.730
To do this, go to the View tab... and put
a check where it says Ruler...

00:02:19.730 --> 00:02:23.810
When you select the lines, you'll be able
to see the indent markers.

00:02:23.810 --> 00:02:28.600
And with bulleted lists, you can just move
the Hanging Indent Marker to control how far

00:02:28.600 --> 00:02:30.380
the bullet is from the text...

00:02:30.380 --> 00:02:33.490
I want it to be pretty close to the text,
but not too close.

00:02:33.490 --> 00:02:35.570
This can really make your lists look more
polished.

00:02:35.570 --> 00:02:38.760
Now I'm going to go back to the paragraphs...

00:02:38.760 --> 00:02:44.140
And I'd like to adjust the spacing in between
the lines to open this up a little bit.

00:02:44.140 --> 00:02:51.130
So you can select the paragraphs... and on
the Home tab, go to the Line Spacing command...

00:02:51.130 --> 00:02:56.120
You can choose a line spacing value here,
but I'd really like something that's in between

00:02:56.120 --> 00:02:58.819
these two values, say 1.3.

00:02:58.819 --> 00:03:04.459
To do that, just go down to Line Spacing Options...

00:03:04.459 --> 00:03:09.420
Just type in the value that you want here...

00:03:09.420 --> 00:03:14.459
While we're here, we can adjust the paragraph
spacing, which is the extra spacing before

00:03:14.459 --> 00:03:16.440
and after each paragraph.

00:03:16.440 --> 00:03:22.730
I'm going to change the spacing after to 12
points...

00:03:22.730 --> 00:03:26.480
This has spread out the lines a little bit,
and you can also see that the paragraphs are

00:03:26.480 --> 00:03:33.740
farther apart now, which is going to make
it easier for the audience to read the text...

00:03:33.740 --> 00:03:37.959
Indents and line spacing can really make the
difference between a presentation that looks

00:03:37.959 --> 00:03:40.659
pretty good and one that looks polished and
professional.
